It's no question as to why Austin is continuously ranked as one of the most satisfying places to live once you visit. The sheer amount of entertainment this city offers is rivaled by few. Austin residents pride themselves on their "weird" culture. The untraditional, art-nurturing population is part of what makes Austin so unique. When in Austin, you will see some fascinating architecture, art, and decorations that have become synonymous with the city. No one has more pride for their city than the residents of Austin.
The city of Austin is truly a permanent vacation, with a never-ending list of possibilities of how to spend your weekends. With a vibrant nightlife featuring hundreds of restaurants, bars, and clubs, Austin's downtown scene has you covered if you feel the need to dance or simply wine and dine. Don't forget outdoor recreation, including fishing, boating, swimming, scuba diving, picnicking and camping on Lake Travis, Lake Austin, or Lady Bird Lake!
What would a description of Austin be without talking about live music. Austin isn't called the Live Music Capital of the World for nothing. Austin City Limits & South By Southwest are just two events that draw crowds of music lovers from all over the world. Austin also has events such as the Mighty Texas Dog Walk which is an annual 3 mile walk downtown in an effort to set the world record for most dogs walked at once! In fact, there are so many events that there is a website just to catalog them all!
Austin has already started making a name for itself as a desirable locale for movie productions. The newly renovated, centrally located, Austin Studios operated by the Austin Film Society, is a 20-acre film production facility. With five full-sized stages, screen rooms, and a 10,000 sqft production office space Austin Studios has worked on several movies and commercials. Their credits include Grindhouse, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Miss Congeniality, and The Life of David Gale among many others.
Don't forget about shopping and sports. Austin has a plethora of outstanding shopping areas, including The Arboretum, The Domain, South Congress, and Barton Creek Square Mall. From high end to bargain shopping, Austin has it all. As for sports, when in Austin you are in UT country, as in the University of Texas. Prepare to bleed burnt orange because with the University downtown, there are fans around every corner. During football season, the historic Darrell Royal Texas Memorial Stadium is packed to the brim every home game with Austinites cheering their favorite team to victory!
