When the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport was closed in 1999, it left behind a 771 acre tract with plans for a master-planned community with new Urbanist principals. Located at Airport Blvd and Manor Road, just three miles from Downtown Austin and two miles from the University of Texas, the Mueller Development is drawing a significant amount of interest to the area east of I35. As a newer master-planned community this close to downtown Austin, Mueller has a tremendous advantage over other communities, awesome location with in-community amenities.


The Mueller Development is envisioned as a "sustainable community" with lofty goals for residential and economic development. According to the Mueller Austin website the plan for the community is "homes for approximately 10,000 people, 10,000 permanent employees, 10,000 construction jobs, more than 1,100 affordable homes and approximately 140 acres of public open space."


 

The Mueller Development is expected to have it all, from houses, condos, and apartments, to sprawling parks, to shopping, to medical centers, to Austin Film Studios, office space, and connections to public transportation among much more. Many of these things are present and active now in the community. The Mueller Development is an urban village aimed at becoming the top master-planned community in Austin.

The Mueller Development not only has houses, but they also have condos for those seeking lower maintenance living. No yard work is always a perk! Greenway Lofts is just blocks from the future Town Center and units feature stained concrete or wood floors standard, stainless steel appliances, and granite counters. There are 36 luxury condo units in Greenway Lofts in Mueller priced from $150's for one bedrooms, $190's for one bedroom plus a study, and $250's for two bedroom units.

Mueller Austin will have a huge amount of commercial space available. A whopping 4.2 million sqft. of non-residential space will be featured in the Mueller community. This large amount of space will be occupied by office space, retail shopping, medical, and film production. The amount of medical and research buildings going into Mueller is unbelievable. The University of Texas Health Research Campus, Dell Pediatric Research Institute, Strictly Pediatrics Subspecialty Center, the Seton Hospital Headquarters, and Dell Children's Medical Center of Texas.


There are several active builders in Mueller, each delivering a unique community-oriented home resembling a village type of neighborhood. Builders in Mueller include David Weekley Homes, Standard Pacific Homes, Streetman Homes, and Saldana Homes. The Muskin Company participated in the 2009 Parade of Homes and had an entry in Mueller. They also built several homes in the community.
