Round Rock, Texas... home of the Dragons, home of Dell Diamond, home of a big round rock in a creek. Round Rock, Texas is a suburb of Austin that was pretty much established by Dell computer company who chose the city for their world headquarters. Round Rock is very friendly city that has it's own offerings to the Austin metro. Dell Diamond, which is located off of 79, is the stadium for the Round Rock Express, central Texas minor league baseball team. Tickets are relatively inexpensive and the stadium is well-kept, clean, and an overall great time. The Dell Diamond also features a swimming pool for parties, some carnival-type games, and the stadium often does special promotions such as 2 for 1 hot dogs, or $2 beer, or free Round Rock Express memorabilia.
The Dell Diamond borders the south end of Old Settlers Park, a massive park which features a lake, batting cages, baseball fields, soccer fields, Frisbee golf course, hike and bike trails, and more! Round Rock also started a tree replacement program that calls for one tree to be planted in Old Settlers Park for every tree that is torn down for construction purposes. This is to be paid for by the company doing the construction.
Round Rock has a reputation for being great for shopping. The Round Rock Premium Outlets is located at 1431 and I35 and features 125 outlet stores including, Adidas, Banana Republic, Burberry, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Coach. Going with the live music theme of Austin, the outlet mall will frequently have live music events.
Across the street from Round Rock Premium Outlets is central Texas only IKEA which brings customers from all over. Obtaining placement of IKEA in Round Rock was a huge victory for the city of Round Rock. Slightly south is La Frontera, another excellent shopping center located at Louis Henna Blvd and I35. The stores featured here include Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath and Beyond, and countless other stores. Also, scattered all over are restaurants of every variety you can think of.
